SKIL’s pioneering venture, Pipavav Shipyard Ltd., is a testimony to the growth and vision of the Indian private sector. It is the exemplification of public private partnership in the Indian infrastructure sector, serving as a role model for other similar ventures.

Pipavav Shipyard is a global first, being the only non-polluting, environment friendly shipyard. Compliant with international safety measures, and observing the most stringent safety standards, it meets with the MARPOL and OILPOLL standards.

Pipavav Shipyard is located within the vicinity of Pipavav Port, Gujarat. Pipavav Shipyard was initially conceived as a ship dismantling yard. For this purpose, the yard was developed with two large wet basins each measuring 680 metres length and a respective width of 60 metres and 65 metres. These are among the largest wet basins built in the world.

The yard offers the flexibility of being easily adaptable to a shipyard facility. Given its size, Pipavav Shipyard has the potential to become one of the largest shipyard complexes in the world. The vision is to build and repair :

The yard has the distinction of being one of the five largest docks in the world and largest in the country, and will therefore be equipped to handle almost any size of ship. The project is inherited with various unique features in its design, location, facilities, size, integration, environment compliant, funding, etc. This has made this yard a project of national & international importance.
